While in Edinburgh, Scotland I saw the 1795 painting Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch by the artist Sir Henry Raeburn, which I have always admired. In it, a man skates across a frozen loch (lake) in Scotland. A loch that no longer freezers over as it did in the mid 1700’s. This sparked the idea for this painting. The reverend skating over the surface of a rising, warming ocean being shadowed by a benevolent humpback whale. Both now living in a precarious world.
