The self-appointed oracles of their species, Oraculum Colubris are the lesser common, mid-sized hummingbirds inhabiting the coastal regions and lowland mountains of southern Costa Rica. Part warrior priestess, part seer between worlds. The plumed females are often seen with a pendulum hanging near their nests, used to clarify present questions and divine future possibilities.
While sketching out and developing this idea, I took a break to stand on my art studio deck overlooking the rainforest and Pacific Ocean, a hummingbird flew up to within about 18 inches of my face, hovered, gave me the eye, spun, and flew off.
The Oracle had spoken.
